The Conservation Commendation is awarded jointly by the Nantucket Garden Club and Nantucket Land & Water Council to recognize and showcase gardens that demonstrate environmentally sound practices by incorporating native plants that minimize and/or eliminate the use of fertilizers, pesticides, chemicals, and irrigation in the landscape.

• Garden consists of species beneficial to pollinators, a majority of which are native to Nantucket — pollinator habitat can be split among multiple distinct sites at your location.
• Established garden is maintained free of any pesticides, chemicals and fertilizer.

Does your submission for Traditional Turf Lawn Reduction meet these requirements?

• Traditional turf lawn area of at least 200 square feet in total is removed from the landscape
• Low maintenance species are used to replace the turf, a majority of which are native to Nantucket.
• Established garden is maintained free of any pesticides, chemicals and fertilizer.

Does your submission for Resilient Landscapes & Rain Gardens meet these requirements?

• A minimum of 25 square feet is enhanced with climate resilient vegetation adjacent to coastal beach, dune, coastal bank, water body or within an area prone to flooding.
• Low maintenance species must be used, a majority of which are native to Nantucket.
• Established garden is maintained free of any pesticides, chemicals and fertilizer.
